SERVICES

Beyond your routine dental needs, at Perfect Smiles we offer cosmetic dentistry, preventative care, screenings and more to give you and your family a comprehensive dental experience.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry will give you healthy, radiant teeth. It is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve confidence and make you want to share your smile.

With state-of-the-art materials, and tested, trusted dental techniques, cosmetic dentistry improves appearance and enhances self-esteem. Composite fillings have replaced traditional silver colored amalgams, while gold has given way to porcelain in the creation of bridges. Other techniques like teeth whitening and veneers can improve the color and/or shape of your natural smile.

Botox for Migraines & Enhancement

Dental Botox® isn’t any different than Botox® offered by a plastic surgeon or other healthcare provider, except that it’s offered by your dentist. Botox® is used to compliment aesthetic dentistry cases as a minimally invasive alternative to surgical methods for treating high lip line, lip augmentation, and orthodontic and denture patients who have trouble adjusting to dental appliances. Botox® has also proven highly effective for treating clinical cases of TMJ/TMD, bruxism, as well as patients who suffer from neck, face, and jaw pain.

Do you suffer from chronic migraines? Ask Dr. Scalia if Botox® is right for you.

Dental Implants

Developed as an alternative to dentures, dental implants are synthetic tooth roots
placed into the jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge.

The design of the implants, as well as their biocompatible construction, allow them to precisely mimic the look and feel of natural teeth.  Anchored to the jawbone or metal framework attached to the bone, they act as a foundation for artificial teeth, and in some cases dentures.

Are dental implants right for you?  They are an excellent option if you have lost a tooth or teeth due to injury, disease, or any other reason.  However the patient must have the proper bone density and immune system for the procedure to be effective.  It is also important to note that dental implants require extensive oral hygiene to ensure their longevity.

Anesthesia will be administered, as the addition of dental implants is a surgical procedure.  In some cases antibiotics are prescribed to prevent infection.

Dental implants can be a wonderful option for those with dentures or missing teeth.

Fillers for Enhancement

At Perfect Smiles we also offer JUVÉDERM® fillers to enhance your features and erase lines and wrinkles around your face. JUVÉDERM® is the smooth gel filler that we use to instantly fill lost volume in the face which can cause wrinkling in certain areas around the mouth and nose. With just one treatment, you’ll get instant smooth and natural-looking results that last up to a year.

Invisalign

Invisalign® makes it easy to straighten your teeth without bands, brackets, or wires. By using a series of clear, removable aligners, Invisalign® straightens your teeth right before your eyes.

Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. These aligners are comfortable, with no metal to cause mouth abrasions. No metal or wires also means you will spend less time at our office getting adjustments. Rather than having braces for years, total treatment time with Invisalign® averages 9 – 15 months.

Whitening

In addition to giving you the benefit of a cleaner looking and more attractive smile, whiter teeth can also enhance your confidence and self-esteem. At Perfect Smiles we offer GLO, a whitening procedure that gives you a brighter, whiter smile faster!

The patented Guided Light Optics (G.L.O.) innovation combines warming heat-plus-light in a closed system mouthpiece. It activates the professional strength GLO Professional Whitening Gel which prevents oxygens from escaping the mouth for fast, efficient, long lasting results. GLO is currently the number one most recommended teeth whitening system by dentists.

Preventative Care and Screenings

  • Digital X-rays
  • Intraoral Photos
  • Mouth guards
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Trios 3 digital impression-taking scanner
Digital X-rays

Our office offers digital x-rays for your convenience. Digital x-rays are computer-generated images that require up to 90% less radiation than conventional film-type x-rays. A picture of your teeth is transmitted onto the monitor in the treatment room immediately.

X-rays are used primarily to find cavities, but dentists also use them to look at the root and bone surrounding the tooth to assess possible periodontal (gum) disease and to keep track of development in younger patients. The immediacy of digital x-rays allows Dr. Scalia to assess the health of your teeth and identify potential problems right away.

Intraoral Photos

Intraoral photos are essential to dentistry as a diagnostic tool in conjunction with x-rays. Intraoral cameras obtain clear, accurate images of the patient’s teeth to help us identify serious problems that may have otherwise remained unnoticed. By catching these problems quickly, we can offer less invasive solutions in regards to your treatment options.

Mouth guards

When a patient is diagnosed with bruxism, a teeth grinding problem, one remedy may include the use of a mouth guard or night guard. These guards do not stop the habit of teeth clenching and grinding, but rather help the patient prevent further damage to their teeth. A night guard functions by protecting the teeth surfaces from being worn down from constant grinding and clenching.

Dr. Scalia also offers custom fit athletic mouth guards, which are primarily worn to protect the teeth and mouth in case of sudden, hard impact during contact sports.

Oral cancer screening

Like many kinds of cancer, oral cancer can be life-threatening if not diagnosed and treated early. Research has identified a number of factors that increase the risk of developing oral cancers including smoking and alcohol consumption, especially for men over fifty.

Our team is trained in a simple, quick screening that involves an examination of your oral cavity to detect cancerous and precancerous conditions. If we find an area of concern, we may recommend a simple test, such as a brush test, which collects cells from a suspicious lesion in the mouth to be sent to a laboratory for analysis. If this test comes back atypical or positive, we may recommend a biopsy.

In addition to the brush test, we are now offering a new service to our routine oral cancer screening. You can now also have the OralID exam. OralID uses the same proven fluorescence technology as other oral exam devices.

OralID can identify oral mucosal abnormalities, such as oral cancer and pre-cancer. OralID can also highlight abnormalities of the GI tract, cervix, lung, and skin. Be safe, be informed. Request your OralID screening at your next visit.

Trios 3 digital impression-taking scanner

Our new Trios 3 Shape scanner is a quick and painless way to obtain digital impressions of your teeth. Using the handheld scanner, a 3D image is created for further study. That means no more dental putty or impression trays! The TRIOS scanner also does not require a messy powder to be sprayed on the teeth in order to capture the image like other scanners do.

Dental Procedures

Bridges

Bridges are custom oral appliances created by Dr. Scalia to replace missing teeth and restore your smile. Bridges are constructed to resemble your natural teeth, but are made from a variety of materials, including porcelain, alloys or gold.

There are three types of bridges: removable, fixed and implant-supported bridges. Talk to Dr. Scalia about which bridge would be right for you.

Crowns

Crowns (also called caps) cover and support a tooth with a large filling when it has decayed beyond the point of repair. They can be used to attach a bridge, protect a weak tooth from breaking or restore one that is already broken. Crown are an excellent way to cover teeth that are discolored or badly shaped.

Dentures: Full & Partials

If you have lost teeth from decay, injury or periodontal (gum) disease, dentures are the solution. Whether you need partial or full dentures, they are essential to improving your oral health and the look of your smile. Dentures allow you to eat normally and also protect you against facial sagging. Proper denture maintenance combined with a regular brushing regimen can guarantee a more comfortable and healthy life.

Extractions

Tooth extractions are necessary when a tooth is too damaged to be restored with a filling or crown. When you have an extraction, the changes can affect your appearance and the overall alignment of your teeth. Extractions typically follow with implant restoration, partial dentures or a bridge.

Mercury Free Restorations

At Perfect Smiles, we only use new and advanced tooth fillings made of materials that contain no mercury. The major advantage of offering mercury-free tooth fillings is the option for more subtle, flattering options for fillings. Our white tooth fillings are essentially indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

Root canals

Root canal treatment can help put an end to painful infections and also salvage what’s of your tooth. Dr. Scalia may recommend a root canal procedure if there is inflammation or infection in the root of your tooth.

Signs to look for include: pain; prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold; tenderness to touch and chewing; discoloration of the tooth; swelling, drainage and tenderness in the lymph nodes or nearby bone and gum tissues.

Soft tissue laser procedures

In recent years, laser dentistry has superseded many traditional practices, making treatments more precise and less painful. Dental lasers can be used to perform a wide variety of treatments, including soft tissue shaping, tumor removal, and filling preparation. Laser incisions are so precise there is minimal blood loss, less chance of infection and less requirement for antibiotics and stitches.

Anesthesia and Nitrous Oxide Available

Whether you’re getting a filling, crown or other invasive dental work, we provide anesthesia to numb your teeth and surrounding gums. Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a great tool for patients who may be uneasy about their dental procedures. The beauty of laughing gas is that Dr. Scalia can constantly adjust your level of sedation during the procedure and once shut off, the effects stop almost immediately. Just a few minutes after the procedure is complete, you will be back to your normal self.

Neck pillows and blankets

A trip to the dentist can be stressful by nature no matter where you go for routine exams or specific procedures. We offer both neck pillows and blankets to make your visit at Perfect Smiles more comfortable for you.
